Training Overview
An employer may receive up to 50 percent of the cost of customized training for incumbent workers under the following conditions:
The customized training program relates to:
- the introduction of new technologies.
- the introduction of new production or service procedures.
- upgrading to new jobs that requires additional technical skills.
- workplace literacy.
- training results in self sufficiency of participants.
- approved training results in transferable skills within industry and/or other growing industries.
- training curriculum is determined to be in demand by local Labor Market data.
- occupations are determined to be in growth or demand by local Labor Market data.
- Customized training programs that are not approved by Maricopa County 's Employed Worker Training Program:
- Maricopa County will not sponsor training such as new employee orientation or training required by labor laws such as OSHA.
- Maricopa County will not sponsor training that is proprietary to a specific company unless skills are determined to be transferable to other businesses or industries
- Training that relates to human resource functions such as diversity, sexual harassment and employment terminations.
- Soft skills training.
- GED Certification
Miscellaneous Conditions
- Customized training participant shall not displace (including a partial displacement, such as a reduction in the non-overtime work, wages, or employment benefits) any currently employed employee (as of the participation).
- Customized training participants shall not displace currently employed employee
- Customized training activities shall not impair an existing contract for services or collective bargaining agreement.
No funds will be used for customized training for any business that has relocated within 120 days.
